“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.”

2 Corinthians 5:17

One enters into Christ through baptism and becomes a new creature (Rom 6:3-4).  The old ways of sin and self pass away.  The new focus is being like Christ.  Paul wrote that we no longer live but Christ lives in us, and though we still live in the flesh we live by faith (Gal 2:20).

Just as a child who gets a new toy puts all his energy and effort into playing with it and sets aside an old and broken one, so do we when new things come in Christ.  His new way is so much better than our old way.
