Looking Forward to Heaven

Some of us do not enjoy worship very much. We’re not the best singers around.  The preaching sure can get dry and long at times, and the prayers tend to be repetitious.  So we don’t always make much effort to be there; Sunday mornings mostly, and even that is hit-and-miss, depending on the weather or company or whatever else is going on that we like to do (Apply the same reasoning to Sunday and Wednesday nights as well. - TN).  But we sure are looking forward to Heaven, where for all eternity we will be gathered around God’s throne praising Him with all the angels.

Some of us do not have all that much respect for Jesus’ lordship.  Oh, we know that God gave Him all authority (Matt 28:18), but at times it is just so hard to accept what He says.  Loving our enemies does not come naturally.  Neither does turning the other cheek. Jesus’ rules can make life difficult. And is it really such a big thing to go beyond what He says and add a few of our own preferences?  We’re not so certain.  But we sure are looking forward to Heaven, where we can sing to Him, “...to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever” (Rev 5:13).

Some of us don’t get along with each other very well.  We constantly complain about what others are doing or not doing. The congregation just goes from one upset to another.  Some of us can’t even get along with our own families. Brotherly love (Heb 13:1; 1 Cor 13:3-7) is in short supply. Northside split from Southside – couldn’t work together. Officially they are “in fellowship,” but everyone knows they are not speaking to each other.  Now, we won’t use any preacher that would try to work with one group or the other.  But we sure are looking forward to Heaven, to all being together for time without end.

Some of us are really disgusted with the immorality of the world around us.  We sure are looking forward to Heaven, where there won’t be any murderers and liars and fornicators and such (Rev 21:8).  Finally, we won’t have to watch them on TV every night!

Does this make you wonder how much the Lord is looking forward to welcoming folks like these into Heaven?  I think you know the answer.
