The Church Just Like You

There was once a church where every one of the members was just like you.

Every member assembled for each Bible class, worship service, gospel meeting, and other special occasions as faithfully as you do.

Each of them prepared for and participated in Bible class and listened to every sermon with the same intensity as you do.

All of the members followed along with every prayer and sang each song with the same spirit as you do.

The elders, deacons, preacher, and teachers all had the same level of commitment to the growth of the church as you do.

Each member was as cheerful and liberal in their giving to the church as you are in yours.

All prayed and studied the Bible as fervently in their daily lives as you do.

They placed the same emphasis on their job, school, recreation, entertainment, and other activities in relation to the Lord’s work as you do.

Every member showed the same concern for the sick, shut-in, and needy brethren as you do.

All of them demonstrated the same desire to save lost souls and strengthen weak ones as you do.

Each member had the same love for God and one another as you do.

In five years this church...

The Bible says that the whole body, the church, is “joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love” (Eph 4:16).

What if every member here was just like you?  What would the future hold for us?  If we want the church to be edified and multiply (Acts 9:31), then we must each be doing our part.

In Philippians 3:17 Paul wrote, “Brethren, join in following my example.”  Can you say this to your brethren?  If you are living right, then the Lord would delight in a local church with all the members being just like you.
